A LOT has happened in the news in the past week. Instagram Reels, Beirut Explosion, Kamala Harris being selected as the VP, Tesla stock splitting 5:1, Tik Tok still in limbo, Uber & Lyft possibly reclassifying drivers in California to full time employees, Trump’s executive order on extending unemployment benefits… it’s been crazy and seemingly non-stop.
Essential Thoughts
I’ve been thinking about buying an electric bike lately. Most of my commute with my car is to the same two towns within 5 miles near me. I spend a lot of my mileage going back and forth between these areas. The downside, electric bikes are expensive. I plan to do a cost/benefit analysis to see how long it’d take me to breakeven on owning an electric bike in terms of gas savings + depreciation by mile on my automobile. Still undecided but interest is piqued.

Question and Answer
Q: “In the case of Tesla, what is a stock split and how does it work?” - Zach S.
A: A company splits their stock as a strategy to lower their stock price so that it’s more ‘accessible’ for more buyers. Think of 1 share of Tesla like a big birthday cake at a bakery. The cake costs $1500 but you can’t afford it, so the bakery slices the cake into 5 slices, at $300 each slice. That makes the cake more affordable, but the total value (the cake) hasn’t changed - it’s still one cake.
