š¤·āāļøš± New Year, Same iPhones?
Hi all!
This week we had the Apple Event, which was a little bit of a let down. The phones look the same, the improvements this year were minor, and many on social media are saying that innovation with Apple died with Steve Jobs.
While itās true, the products arenāt that ānewā with upgraded looks or form factor, itās pretty hard to innovate on already seemingly good design. Thatās the way hardware and technology work, eventually youāll see smaller, incremental, innovations rather than large leaps in form factor. The main problems are already solved for. Itās the reason why sedan cars look like, well, sedansā¦ or why the airplane is a certain shape - these designs have been perfected already.
Itās like starting a new hobby or instrument, all your āhugeā gains will be in the beginning. Over time youāll reach plateaus, and getting 10% better becomes so much harder.
I think itās cool that we have so much technology in our hands already, and that the devices have become so good that theyāre all just intuitive to use - youāll even see kids as young as 2 years old being able to use an iPad or iPhone.
Anyway, when it comes to your wallet - thereās no need to upgrade phones every cycle, but perhaps once every 3-4 years is the most optimal cadence if you enjoy having new technology all the time.
Iāll be heading to Austin, TX this week from Wednesday to Sunday for FinCon, although Iām not going to the convention, Iāll be there to meet with some financial brands and other YouTubers/Tik Tokāers!
If you have any suggestions on what to do in Austin, lmk by replying!
Have a great week,
- Humphrey & Rickie

HY: At some point Apple ditched the āSā versions of their phones between model years. This years event seemed more deserving of an āSā upgrade, you couldāve called it the iPhone 12S and I would have not thought twice.
Pfizer Makes its Case to FDA for Booster Shots (CNBC)
Pfizer claims third Covid shot restores protection from infection to 95% as they make their case to the FDA. However, the FDA refuses to take a stance due to lack of verifiable data.
HY: Makes sense, the FDA took over 8 months to give FDA Approval to the Pfizer Vaccine, and still has yet to approve others. Will take some time for this third shot to be approved. But meanwhile, average 7-Day Covid confirmed cases in the US have been flat the last month and a half (https://covid-19.direct/US).
SpaceX Sends Civilians Into Space on First Private Flight (BBG)
SpaceX launched four civilians on a three day orbital excursion called āInspiration4ā. It is the first of many private spaceflights that Elon Musk is planning in the coming years.
HY: Hereās some more info about the flight: here. It included 4 civilians without astronaut specialized space training. I assume this is going to happen a bit more often as the years pass and should be interesting as commercialized space travel becomes more occurring.
