Despite the clickbait title, I had a really great time on the Iced Coffee Hour! I hope you watch this podcast to learn more about me and my story!
The Biggest News from Apple’s WWDC
M2 MacBook Air
While Apple typically doesn’t announce hardware releases at WWDC, it was a pleasant surprise to see the redesigned MacBook Air, featuring Apple’s second-gen processor, M2.
Apple says that the M2 offers a 20% improvement vs. the M1 version, and for video editing, people can expect a 40% bump.
The display is slightly bigger overall at 13.6-inches diagonal.
The front-facing webcam is finally a 1080p version and the speaker system is integrated into the case, offering support for Spatial Audio.
This new MacBook Air starts at $1,199, a $200 price hike from the previous version.
Based on initial reactions online, it seems most people feel that the price hike may not be worth the new technical and physical upgrades…
iOS 16
In iOS 16, the two most notable features will be found in the Messages app and on the lock screen.
You’ll now be able to edit and unsend messages in the Messages app. These two features will be available for 15 minutes after you send the original message. A simple, but nice quality-of-life update.
In the new lock screen, iPhones will be able to show calendar events, weather and other information without needing to unlock your phone.
You can also personalize the font and color of the clock and set up multiple lock screens associated with different “Focus Modes” (ex. School, Work, Home).
In addition notifications will now appear from the bottom of the lock screen, in order to keep the main widgets and features in clear view.

MacOS Ventura
The new MacOS will allow your iPhone’s higher resolution camera to become your Mac’s webcam!
In addition to that, there will no longer be any passwords…
Safari will now use passkeys, which use the biometric sensors in your device to authenticate logins. That means there’s no longer a need to remember passwords or use password managers!

iPadOS 16 / WatchOS 9
With the iPad OS, there will finally be external display support, allowing your iPad to truly become a “real” computer. Now you can view multiple apps on both the iPad and the external display, dragging and dropping files and apps between screens!
Definitely looking forward to this.
In addition, “Stage Manager” will allow users to resize windows and overlap windows in a single view on the iPad.
I’ve always found it tedious to resize windows and switch between layouts with different apps open. Hopefully, this will finally help fix that.
In WatchOS 9, the main new upgrades are in health and fitness. Starting with the new Medications app, which will remind you to take pills, vitamins, supplements, and can help you log your doses.
While working out, Apple Watch users will get a new heart-rate zone feature that can gauge your intensity level. For running nerds (like myself), you can now also track your vertical oscillation, stride length or ground contact time metrics.
Lastly, there’s some upgrades to sleep tracking, which now tracks the time spend in REM, core, or deep sleep as well as your heart rate and respiratory rate throughout your sleep. Pretty cool stuff!

Personally, I’m really looking forward to iPadOS 16 and the new integration with an external display and also the new multitasking features. I’m also considering upgrading from my current 2017 MacBook Air to the new MacBook Air…
Charts of the Week
Fears of recession tick up as inflation continues to shoot up. People are getting really nervous and there is still no evidence that we’re at all near our peak in terms of inflation.
